Magick in America: 1820-1952

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Despite what you’ve been told, America has long been a hotbed for magic and the occult. While the Golden Dawn was stealing headlines in the 19th Century, we Yanks were busy inventing Spiritualism and refining sex magick. Join us as we peek inside some of America’s earliest (and most influential) spell books, and wonder aloud just how close The Mormon Church was to being a pagan institution. From Johnny Appleseed to Witches in Arkansas it’s a whirlwind tour of America’s occult legacy; a legacy that’s still helping to shape Modern Paganism today. Revised and updated for 2016!

Speakers
JM

Jason Mankey

Jason Mankey has been involved in Paganism for over 20 years, the last ten of those as a speaker, writer, teacher, and High Priest. He's currently the managing editor of Patheos Pagan, a columnist at "Witches and Pagans" magazine, and has just released his first book for Llewellyn Publications ("The Witch's Athame"). He currently lives in Sunnyvale CA, but is probably staying at the DoubleTree anyways.
